I am Felipe Schmidt Fonseca, a Berlin-based Brazilian activist and free/open advocate turned researcher. I am a PhD candidate at the Northumbria University, investigating waste prevention and generous cities in the OpenDoTT project. I am a co-founder and articulator of the Tropixel network and a member of GIG. I was a Marie Curie Early Stage Research Fellow between 2019 and 2022 (University of Dundee / Northumbria University / Mozilla Foundation) I have recently engaged in other collaborations such as ID21, fonte.wiki and Semente.

Through more than two decades I have been a co-founder and leader of a series of community and networking initiatives dedicated to critical thinking (and making) in the crossroads between culture, science, technology and society. Some examples are MetaReciclagem, CulturaDigital.BR, Bricolabs, Rede//Labs, Lixo Eletrônico, Ciência Aberta Ubatuba, UbaLab. I was the user community manager of the Subutai Platform and occasional teacher/instructor/workshop facilitator on diverse topics.

I have an MA in Science Diffusion from Labjor at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in Brazil, acquired with a dissertation about networked experimental labs.

I have two kids. We love travelling, playing music and cooking.
